Shared Voices

Design Thesis, Print, 2017

My Design Thesis for my Bachelor’s degree at Umass Dartmouth, Shared Voices, was a social justice campaign that I produced in response to the hateful rhetoric that fueled and followed Donald Trump’s Presidential Election in 2016. The goal of the campaign was to amplify the voices of intersectional organizations across campus in an effort to facilitate an inclusive dialogue during a period of political unrest.

The concept that would be the driving force for my thesis was a poster campaign. My intent for the posters was to develop a visual series that would represent students from diverse backgrounds and organizations from across campus with the hope of giving them a platform to speak to the rest of the student population and spotlight their organizations. I sought out numerous student organizations that represent marginalized students and conducted a series of interviews asking them to speak on the political climate and what their organizations advocate for.

Typographic Poster

A series of typography posters that I designed using enrollment data provided by student affairs in order to give an idea of how diverse the student body was on campus. Pairing the poster series that included organizational information the intent was to communicate the importance and scale of the campus’ intersectionality and then provide clubs for students to join.

The series represented the international
student body of nearl 600 students from
47 different countries.
